Must Try Restaurants in Chicago

December 11, 2021

Chicago is known for its beautiful skyline & eccentric food. Being a huge foodie, I’ve tried all types of restaurants (and gained a few lbs along the way). Here are my top 7 fav restaurants based on taste, price, and ambiance – Bon appetit!

Trivoli Tavern
$$
There’s a reason why this Trivoli is one of the top rated restaurants in Chicago. The food, service, and ambience is unmatched. From the moment you walk down the cobblestone courtyard, you are easily transported to a different year. This is a perfect place for a date, girls night out, work event, or dinner with friends! Not to mention, they have amazing happy hour specials ($5 drinks/apps).

What to order:
Bread rolls w/ honey butter for the table
Smoked Salmon Caesar Salad
Truffle Bucatini
Vodka Rigatoni
Whole Branzino
Butterfinger Pie

Alla Vita
$$
Serving a casual, family-style menu, Alla Vita is a place to gather and enjoy comfortable Italian cuisine. This is a bit of a newer restaurant that I’ve already been to numerous times due to the beautiful decor and unique Italian dishes.

What to order:
Roasted Octopus
Tagliatelle
Ricotta Dumplings
Rigatoni
Alla Vita’s Chicken Parmigiana
Nutella Affogato

Juno Sushi
$$
Juno lives up to their title of being one of 21 best sushi restaurant in America. The intimate setting & eclectic menu will blow your mind! Perfect for a date night or “treat yourself” meal. No matter what you order, you will be impressed.

What to order:
Crudo
Signature Smoked Hamachi
Juno Queen Nigiri
Tako Maguro Maki
Hotate Nigiri

Momotaro
$$
Name top 50 restaurant in America & personally my 2nd favorite Japanese restaurant in Chicago. The ambiance is fun and flirty – they even have a downstairs bar for a nightcap or out all night vibe.

What to order:
Monk’s Journey (vodka and matcha cocktail that is to die for)
Maguro
Spaghetti
Aji Yakusugi
Yakitoi Don
Otoro Nigiri
Hokkaido Uni Nigiri

Bavette’s Bar & Boef
$$
Another great restaurant by HogSalt. A stylish departure from a traditional steakhouse, Bavette’s embraces French flair without the formality, blending fine dining with unabashed fun. By far my favorite steakhouse in Chicago.

What to order:
Fresh Oysters
Classic Ribeye – Chicago Cut
Porterhouse Steak
Prime Beef French Dip
Elote Style Corn
Truffle Mac n Cheese
Carrot Cake

Cabra
$$
Cabra is a rooftop Peruvian-inspired. The lively dining experience is anchored on shareable plates bold in flavor and bright in taste. What’s better than a beautiful restaurant, with amazing food and views?

What to order:
Avocado Dip
Salmon Ceviche
Goat Empanadas
Mixto Calabaza
Salchipapas
Tres Leches

Mott St.
$
Asian inspired menu with a twist! I can say I have never had so many different, flavorful dishes. They have a funky outdoor patio & inside is filled with Mott’s Apple juices (punny). The menu was overwhelming at first but I figured out the must try dishes that will not leave you disappointed or hungry.

What to order:
Garlic Fried Rice
Mott Burger
Char Siu Pork Belly
Mentaiko Kimchi Udon
Imperial Rolls
