Skincare enthusiasts brace yourselves for the year ahead! This year comes with changes to your skincare routine that you should be making to maximize your time and effort and get the perfect skin you’ve always dreamed of.
We’ve seen so many skincare trends last year but, as is the constant in life, there are some changes coming! The approach to skincare would be different, more holistic, and there are key new ingredients that are making a debut (and some would be making a comeback too!!).
This post is all about new year new skin, and skincare changes to make this year.
Skinimalism
Skin minimalism is the new way to go. Using too many products will become a thing of the past. This year we are focusing on multi-use products and creating a simple skincare routine that you can keep consistently, without getting lost in thousands of different ingredients. Less is more, it would be beneficial for your skin because you won’t irritate it as much as before and it would help your cash flow, so is a win-win situation.
Life is busy, we need to get home and have a simplified way to maintain healthy-looking skin without the all the time consuming 10-step-skincare-routine. On top of that it will make you have more space in your bathroom, so scale down your routine and stick to products you can use for multiple purposes. You know what they say: “Quality over quantity”, always.
The Future Of Skin Cycling
We saw how trendy skin cycling was last year, this term refers to alternating between a moisturizer, a retinol, and exfoliating acids. This year the changes involve introducing stronger formulations of active ingredients and applying them 2 or 3 days a week instead of once a week, allowing you to see results faster.
Another skin cycling change that is going to be big is called gentle skin cycling, where you layer a rich moisturizer on top of your retinol/exfoliating serum to maintain your skin barrier, especially beneficial for sensitive skin.
But you do have to ask yourself, is skin cycling for me? Although the classic skin cycling is a great practice, is more suitable for persons with sensitive skin and retinol beginners, but if you already built tolerance to active ingredients or you’re trying to maximize the benefits of them and want to turn up a notch your routine then this is your year.
Body Care
Bodycare is the new skincare, finally everybody’s attention is being directed to the rest of our skin. When it comes to skin we concentrate on our face and forget about the skin of our body. Start treating ALL your skin with the same care and attention you give to your face.
Your favorite beauty supply store is going to be full of new products to help you achieve that and is going to get interesting because we are going to see not only body lotions or oils, but body serums, masks, and active ingredients on this new arsenal to target body skin concerns. If you are feeling curious start trying this smoothing body lotion.
Funny thing, we dedicate so much time and resources to keep the skin of our face in top condition but disregard 99% of the rest of it. Do you give special attention to the skin of your chest, your hands or legs? Probably not, but 2023 is the year of bodycare, taking care of that beautiful layer that is not only that 1% that you see in the mirror every morning. Start changing your routine this year by adding new products that do so much more than your basic drugstore lotion, there is an arsenal of carefully created products to target different concerns that you can add.
Introducing Hybrids
In combination with skinimalism you should be able to cut down on products when you go for `the not-so-new hybrids that double as makeup and skincare. Although not completely new, these formulations are getting better and are coming up with amazing innovations.
The power of these hybrids reside in saving you money and time without sacrificing the benefits of skincare while still getting the style you want. Last year we saw thousands of makeup articles adding SPF and other skincare elements like niacinamide, ceramides and hyaluronic acid to their mix.

Skin Home Tech
New year, new devices! From reintroducing old tools like derma rollers to LED light masks and microcurrent devices, anything you can use in the comfort of your home to boost your skincare results. Beauty technology is growing at incredible speed and is taking the spot of your weekly sheet face mask.
Say goodbye to expensive invasive treatments, and trips to your esthetician’s office, and take matters into your own hands (literally) to sculpt your face and improve the texture and firmness of your skin. Skincare tech is definitely something you should be starting out this year.
At home chemical peels can also help other active ingredients from your routine to penetrate deeply, and there is a boom of delicate formulations that you can use by yourself to reap the benefits without spending too much money, but please always remember to do a patch test prior to application.
One of the new devices that is on the spotlight is the microcurrent, LED, and heat therapy tiny wand called SolaWave that targets fine lines, minimize dark circles and dark spots, and combat blemishes, smaller than your phone but full of skincare potential.
New Players
We will always have the good old reliable retinol and ceramides to help our complexion but with the new year we are introducing new compounds. The ones trending right now are blue tansy, an antioxidant that comes from a yellow flower related to chamomile that will help acne-prone skin and will fight free radicals to reduce damage from UV rays and air pollution, you can find it in this Face Oil.
Next, we have the power of mushrooms, one called Tremella with impressive moisturizing properties that is supposed to be the next generation alternative to hyaluronic acid.
And last, we have Hypochlorous Acid that fights microorganisms and have anti-inflammatory properties helping your skin to heal faster, it also reduce redness and prevents breakouts, it sounds like an all in one kind of a treatment and it could be bigger this year.
Consider this year trying one of these superstar ingredients if you feel they could be beneficial for your skin concerns and let us know how it goes.

Psychodermatology
Gone are the days when you harshly criticize your skin and pick on every little thing you didn’t like about it. Is not only about passively accepting what genetics handed to you but approaching self-love and skincare in a new way.
Taking care of our skin in a more holistic way and facing the different stages that we go through during our life with a more realistic perception. Sometimes certain conditions, like climate, hormones, or stress, can predispose you to have a specific skincare issue and that’s why we need to take all factors into consideration.
Aging is the number one concern regarding the skin of your face, in women and men alike, but instead of taking age skin related changes like a reason to worry or stress about, this year you should make the change to the current mindset of active aging. Embracing your uniqueness and using a routine that is going to help you navigate this natural change with a more relax approach, the pressure to age with “grace” or “dignity” is out the door, as is the double standard of shaming people for using surgical resources to maintain a younger appearance but also criticizing those who do nothing and accept their aging as a natural process, the new mindset is aging healthy and pressure free.
The goal is to manage our emotions and our way of thinking to shift the preconceived idea that aging is bad or something that we need to “fix”, and focus more on how our skin evolves and what can we do to take the changes with a positive attitude.
Sustainability
We are still in the fight for more cruelty-free products but this year the cosmetic industry is showing concern for the environment when it comes to manufacturing and packaging, with most brands putting out their refillable versions.
But aside from packaging we are seeing a more conscious approach regarding ingredient sourcing, waste management and cleaner processes of production that are environmental-friendly. Lately we as consumers are more aware of the impact we can produce and we are seeking eco-green products, not only on skincare but everywhere, and taking this factors into consideration when deciding to make a purchase and we’ve been heard!! Some beauty brands are making an effort to reduce their carbon footprint.
It may seem like nothing to you but think about it this way: how many lipstick and mascara bottles do you have? And how many more do you buy each year? Most of them are all single-use plastic, non-recyclable. Where do you think those tiny tubes go when you finish them? When we see things from a different perspective, we gain new insight and can contribute, even a little bit, to make things better.
The change to make this year is getting to know more about these brands that care not only about your skin and sales but also about the planet and make an educated choice to choose products that will have a more positive impact in our world.
